Question about box set
Just one question regarding the Complete A&M Years and More box set. Why were the other two tracks from the Arthur 2 soundtrack not put on the box set?

The reason the other tracks from Arthur 2 were not included on the Something Big set was due to licensing issues; Universal does not own the tracks, they would have had to come from Warner Bros. Actually, we were lucky to get the two tracks we got!

Just out of curiosity, why didn't "Move It On The Backbeat" make it into the set? Were there any other Bacharach obscurities you were trying for that didn't come through?Hip-Ocrates wrote:The reason the other tracks from Arthur 2 were not included on the Something Big set was due to licensing issues; Universal does not own the tracks, they would have had to come from Warner Bros. As I said on the homepage, you did a great job with the set. It would have been nice to have a few more rarities, but from what I've learned, there simply aren't a lot of alternate versions or unreleased Bacharach recordings out there.

Thanks again for the kind words. We had gotten right down to the wire with "Move It On The Backbeat" and its b-side when we were unable to obtain a license for it. As you might guess, it bummed us out in a big way. But since the main focus of the set was always intended to have been the A&M / Kapp recordings, we pressed on with what we could get.
All of us at Hip-O Select are delighted to have been involved with the project, and we're grateful to have had the set blessed by the man himself.
As for the Universal vaults, they've been pretty thoroughly plundered with this release. Absent some astonishing development (such as a reel that was mismarked and filed away in the Universal vault in Timbuktu), we got everything we could.
And maybe someone, someday, will have better luck getting "Move It On The Backbeat." At least we hope so.
