BachtoBacharach wrote:Dionne Warwick arranged and produced "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" for the 1965 film Thunderball...in what John Barry called one of the most interesting arrangements of the tune he had ever heard. Warwick's recording of Kiss Bang was removed from the film at the last minute and replaced with Tom Jones' Thunderball...rumor has it that the tune was considered to have sexual connotations unacceptible to an American audience...but the truth is that Barry was not impressed with a version of the tune recorded by Shirley Bassey and asked Warwick to cut the tune. Warwick arranged and wrote the charts for her version and also assembled the orchestra to record the tune. When Bassey threatened to sue, the tune was scrapped and the more routine Tom Jones tune was quickly wrtten and substituted.

A lot of errors above,

1. John Barry (music) and Leslie Bricusse(lyrics) compose a song Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang for the opening titles of the 4th Bond film ,Thunderball

2.Early Autumn 1965 Dionne Warwick is on a European tour she is invited to sing the song.

3.The song is recorded on 4th September. Arrangement and production were by John Barry.

4. United Artists decide they want a song with Thunderball as title for PR. Mr.KKBB is dropped.

5.Over a mid September weekend John Barry/Don Black compose a new song 'Thunderball' .

6.Thunderball is recorded by Tom Jones on 11th October

7. The next day they record a version of Mr KKBB with Shirley Bassey intended for the closing titles. Bassey's performance was problematic and it was dropped.

7. Bassey and her management demand the song is reinstated or they'll sue. They argue the film's opening should be delayed until the song is reinstated. The court rejects this and says Bassey should seek damages. There was an out of court settlement.

Both versions of the song Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bank were finally released on a 2CD 30th Bond Anniversary set in 1992

I'm in awe of these fantastic musicians !!!
Isaac once appeared on a "Bacharach Special" in the early seventies and Burt commented
"Shaft.....wish I'd written that !"

What Can I Do?

Post by An Enormous BB Fan »

I'm pretty sure that Burt (and Steven Krikorian) wrote this song. I think it's a song of Burt's that not too many people know about. I also think it's a masterpiece! Irma Thomas is just so terrific on this song. Need I say that Burt is a genius?

Hope you like it:

You're most welcome, blue!

I have to say that I do find it astounding that such a song gets written and it instantly becomes a rarity. Especially when such GARBAGE become hits!
