"One World One Song" is the stunning new single from the legendary Dionne Warwick and Joe McElderry released in the UK on the 28th May 2013.
It was written for Dionne & Joe by the great Tony Hatch ("Downtown") whose musical partnership with Petula Clark has often been compared to the one between BB/HD and DW.
Great stuff!

It is not "great stuff." It is pointless, pandering pap unworthy of the great Tony Hatch, DW, or us.

I do not consider this "..... pointless, pandering pap ....." It does have its moments and some hooks that I rather like. ....... I'm certain that all involved in this effort for the Hunger Project (which I know nothing about) did this for all the right reasons! ......... However one wishes to evaluate the changes in Dionne's vocal capabilities - one thing stands out. Her voice and phrasing remain distinctive and inimitable. The "4 never previously recorded by her songs" included on the recently released "NOW" cd attest to her ability to still hold her own when singing material appropriate to her present vocal capabilities - coupled - with solid production and engineering (as delivered by the late Phil Ramone on the "NOW" cd) ......... I will definitely add this new recording to my iTunes Library!

There is nothing about the song which could identify it as a composition by Tony Hatch or any other reasonably competent song writer. It reminds me of one of the new "trendy" hymns introduced by the Church of England in the 1960-s.
Compare it to "That's What Friends Are For".

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.

Interesting response to a project Tony Hatch is so proud of.
And hasn't Mr. Bacharach stated many times that "That's What Friends Are For" by Dionne and Friends is the record he is the most proud of? I'm sure that one - hopefully distant - day his obituaries will call him "the composer of "Close To You", "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" and "That's What Friends Are For"".

The three songs I mentioned are probably not his greatest compositions but the songs the general public associates him with...For Alfie you have to be a fan or over 50.
