If you are referring to Burt/ Dionne recording of Alfie from around 1967, I think that was Ray Brown on Bass....He did a fantastic job on it.

Who later played bass on The Merv Griffin Show! Both Merv's show and Johnny's show had some really great musicians in those bands. You are right about Ray Brown playing on the TV show mentioned .One time he was coming out and walking down the street, and I talked to him...This was on Vine St. in Hollywood near the Merv Griffin Show.I asked him about his composition Gravy Waltz...(words and recording by Steve Allen)and he was mentioning the Donnn Trenner Orchestra, who played on the Allen record.
