I just picked up the May 2005 Mojo magazine, mostly for the cover story on Lou Reed and the article about Memphis, but I was thrilled to discover that the included CD, dedicated to Southern Soul, features two Bacharach recordings that I don't think I previously owned--Mavis Staples' rendition of "A House Is Not A Home" and Irma Thomas' "Long After Tonight Is All Over."
As I said, this CD was included free with the May 2005 issue of Mojo, so it may no longer be available, but if you're interested it's worth checking up on. It's a great magazine and stores sometimes have a few copies of the previous month's issue lying around.
(And sorry I haven't been more active. I'm in Omaha right now, so hopefully I'll do a few updates when I get back to New Orleans.)
