Though you (and I) may prefer to be a a fly on the wall when Burt's at home enjoying himself at the piano.

Most will miss those musical summer nights
By KERY MURAKAMI
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER
On Seattle's waterfront, a summer of silence has begun.
With deteriorating piers no longer able to hold hordes of Indigo Girls or Ziggy Marley fans, this summer's Cingular Summer Nights concert series opened last night at its new home on South Lake Union.
Gone for the condo dwellers who live across the street from Piers 62 and 63 are the evenings when the Beach Boys' "Surfin' USA" splashed in through their windows. There won't even be the "Sounds of Silence."
The only horns wafting on the water: those of state ferries cutting across Elliott Bay.
"One Sunday afternoon, Burt Bacharach was practicing, and he played right through the afternoon," recalled Isabel Gaddis, 44, across the street from where the piers now sit empty and quiet, save for a few tourists soaking up the rays and the view.
"That's pretty cool," Gaddis said, "to have Burt Bacharach playing almost in your living room."
Gaddis said it was interesting seeing the different crowds the acts would bring.
"The Ziggy Marley fans are real dog lovers," she said.
Gaddis would take Zeppo, a white sheep dog with long hair like that of the dreadlocked reggae fans, past the lines of people waiting to get in. "Zeppo would be working the line, and everyone would be, 'Nice to meet you.' "
Clint Treadwell seemed particularly disappointed. "I just moved in on Saturday. It would have been perfect being out on the deck listening to the music."
Some, though, were happy for the quiet.
Craig Montgomery said the bass would upset his 10-year-old boxer, Mattie. His Pomeranian, Tookie, though, seemed to like it.
"It's OK, the first two, three, four concerts," Montgomery said. "But 12? It gets old."
Certainly, though, there must be some bands that are more enjoyable than others?
Barbara Heimann didn't care who was playing. "Chris Isaak, Indigo Girls, I'm an easy-going gal."
Besides, Gaddis said, "If you're in the middle of something, you just close your window and say, 'OK, Burt, I'll hear you later.' "
