At This Time on Radio 2

Post by nymusicalsguy »

Hi everyone, if you haven't done so, visit the BBC radio website at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/networks ... wright_tue#

to hear a great, if brief, interview with Burt which features
extended clips from two of the songs off AT THIS TIME.
The first features Elvis Costello and is a terrific, hook-
laden piece with a great Bacharach flugelhorn part, and
is Burt's most political tune yet, though nothing explicit --
a worthy follow-up to socially conscious songs like "The
Windows of the World". The second piece is one of his
collaborations with Dr. Dre, and features Burt, in his
inimitable style, quietly musing -- rapping, if you
will -- about the world his children will grow up in --
it's a unique and touching piece.

Check it out and report back with your thoughts! :-)

Thanks for the heads-up on hearing the first of At This Time. If you are interested in just hearing the Burt segments you can 'fast forward' to 18:30 and 18:45 to hear the new material.

Mr. B mentioned recently he felt this work was some, if not THE best of his career. After several listenings I'd have to agree. Bring it on, Burt!

I have to say I'm completely hooked on the new songs. Burt said he was asked not to aim at something commercial. But I think the strategy will not work, as in my opinion this CD will be a huge hit. If soporific Kenny G and the like have a place on the radio and on best-selling lists/charts, then I think songs from this CD will invade light jazz stations and others and teach those who like such artists how beautiful music can be. I suspect that Burt will soon be asked to do a new album in the same general genre -- this time, with the express purpose of reaching the top of the charts.

I think Burt had What's Goin' On in mind (consciously or not) when he worked on this project. As that great song and album have survived the test of time, so will At This Time, an album that, if we were to focus strictly on the music, might as well have been titled Now Is Forever.

New Songs

Looking forward to Burts new CD.
Took a listen to the two tracks on the BBC radio. Thanks for the link.
Was anxious to see how Burt and Dr Dre would sound together, have to say very happy with the outcome on the song Where Did it GO.
A Melody you can't get out of your head after you listen to it a few
times. Song almost feels like 3 songs in one, the ending part with Burt
rapping , singing what ever he does sends chills through your body.
Way to go Burt.

The other track Please Explain is a winner too, but not a big fan of
Elvis Costello's voice.
