I`d still like to see (or hear) a revival on NY Animals - even a "workshop" presentation similar to that given Some Lovers at Lincoln Center. To my ears the score for NYA was stronger, yet it seems to have been stuffed down the memory hole.

In the same year that London saw another revival of Promises, Promises this is more good news. I think that 'Every Other Hour' and 'Hush' from the show are two of the better songs Bacharach has composed in the last twenty years or so.

Having just booked for two BBC Proms concerts in early September featuring four blockbuster works by Prokofiev and Shostakovich, this show running about the same time might just be the perfect anti-dote. It's a shame in a way that 'Some Lovers' is slso set at the time of Christmas as was 'Promises, Promises'.

Going by the length of the show's run and the ticket prices, it looks to me that this will be a staged reading rather than a full blown production. Having seen dozens of shows put on this way courtesy of Lost Musicals, a London based company specialising in the performance of shows that have rarely if ever been produced in the West End, it's a perfectly agreeable way of experiencing a musical, especially if you're there primarily to hear the score.

I bought tickets for the second night and was informed that it is not a staged reading but a small-scale production. I suppose there's a chance that BB will be there for the opening night given that he doesn't need much of an excuse to come to London.

What I like about this song from the show is that it has Bacharach's stamp all over it, and how many songs of his have we been able to say that about the past 30 to 40 years? I remember when Josie James sang this in London a few years ago a notable frisson went around the audience at the start of the second verse, something I've rarely experienced in a concert hall, especially to that extent:

I too was there that night at the Festival Hall and I think what you're referring to is a couple of thousand people hearing a new song and identifying it as something akin to classic Bacharach and at about the same time. When the 2nd verse began it was already starting to sound familiar. I'm looking forward to hearing this song and all the others within the context of the show. Here's Josie James with BB performing Every Other Hour, not in London but in Israel.

Thanks Blair for posting the videos concerning New York Animals. One thing that strikes me about both that show and Some Lovers is the earnestness and the apparent lack of humour, which as we all know was such a vital ingredient in the success of Promises, Promises and its rich and varied score. While I'm looking forward to seeing the London production of Some Lovers in a few weeks, my anticipation would be greater if I wasn't expecting to hear nothing but ballads.

We managed to get tickets for the opening night on August the 24th, the first of only twelve performances of the show. The Other Palace is a relatively small venue so I should imagine most if not all the performances will sell-out.
