Fascinating topic.
Growing up in the UK in the 70's I avidly watched / listened as the vagaries of the market(?) dictated the weekly charts.
And looking back now, we are recognizing the quality of some songs that, for whatever reason, did not satisfy the needs of the market.
If some pop music historian were to revisit this period (and others) and chronologically document such undeserving failures, I'd be on board.
