Burt in Buffalo
Like Blair, I was part of a foursome who travelled to Buffalo, from over the border in Canada, to see Burt at Kleinhans Music Hall. Blair apparently went on Friday. We went to the second performance on Saturday. We had seen Burt last year in Toronto with his stage group. It was amazing, and prompted me to arrange tickets to see Burt with a full orchestra. Frankly, the difference was astounding! I have always believed that at least part of the magic of Burt's music is its dynamic range. This comes to full bloom only in front of a full orchestra. One of the best on Saturday was during one song (sorry, they were all so great, I forgot which one) when Burt brought on the full orchestra and horns, then ritarding within two bars to a single violin, which was mixed beautifully. My only small quibble is that the electronic bass and synthesizer often overpowered the strings of the orchestra - a common problem with mixed concerts. In all, a great night! I am curious to know how one could see Burt after the performances.
