Piano music........someone please respond!

Post by jbgolf35 »

Hey everyone,
Does anyone by chance own the sheet music for "I say a Little Prayer" from "My Best Friend's Wedding?" I was thinking about buying it, but I want to know how close it is to the actual piano music I hear during the version where the movie cast is all singing. Would anyone have any info on this? Thanks! - Joe

i have a piano arrangement in a book called 'the burt bacharach anthology' published by warner bros. (in the UK); the harmony is pretty much faithful to the dionne warwick single, as opposed to the show version, and even so is only an arrangement and not what the piano plays on the record; i'd imagine this is the version that is in most songbooks

i'd be interested to know too if anyone has proper piano arrangements of any of burt's songs

piano sheet music response

in response to "proper" paino arrangements that burt plays being
available..the answer is "no"(lol).what happened was after the record was made a copy of it was taken over to music copyists office such as bob
ross music(now defunct)where they had a man who specialized in listening to the record and then fleshing a piano version out for the public.that was then sent to the publissher for printing.
probably the closest to the arrangements pianowise is to get the piano
conductor score for promises promises play.in that book the piano parts
are the ones used in the play.

If a beginner does not have prior experience in the piano will be difficult to decipher the notes and lines of a standard piano sheets. There are schools that offer training in piano sheet, but believe it or not, it takes longer to learn the programs that exist today. There are also special books that consists of a few simple notes and letters are incorporated into each key. It is also a possibility, but the student would then need to invest even more time to learn something. If the student has the opportunity to learn quickly so that the easiest and fastest way to learn is the piano teacher found on the web.

Fiona,
not sure what you meant by your last post...If you can't transcribe the music yourself, why not have someone else, like a piano teacher, etc do it?
I wish you the best in your endeavors to get something that you can play that sounds like the arrangement you want.
Best,

Guest,
Regarding the piano-conductor book for Promises Promises....Most libraries from major cities will have a copy...I think you could also purchase this from the publisher. You'll need to do a web check on it. I know that TAms Witmark rents out the score (parts and piano conductor part) to community plays and schools.
My source was our local library, where it still sits...Try a county interlibrary loan.
