1970 ... What a year for the Bacharach sound...

Post by helcio mazzuco »

I was listening to an Internet radio station that plays 70's music and they were playing this week's Billboard top 50 songs 36 years ago (for week ending Aug. 8, 1970) and the Carpenters were sitting on the top of that chart (for three weeks already and heading for its fourth).
Dionne Warwick's "Paper Mache" (unfortunately) was reaching its peak at #43 (too bad, it could have been a Top 10, but it's a classic, anyway).
But 1970 was also the year of "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head", "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "One Less Bell To Answer"...
Not to mention the "Oscar" for "Butch Cassidy", golden records and a couple of "Grammys" for Dionne, Burt and Hal.
What a year...

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the Carpenters song was (of course) (They Long To Be) Close To You.
