Bacharach to tour Melbourne, Australia?

Post by Major7thChordsLover »

Hello BB fans!

I have been hoping for an update on the tour dates, but there are still no tour dates for Melbourne! Only Sidney and Adelaide have been confirmed. Has anyone read anything in relation to Burt coming to Melbourne?

Did you know they used to call the major seventh chord the heartbreak chord, because of it's nostalgic sound?

Hi Major7thChordsLover,

Unfortunately, the latest email I received from Burt's publicist indicates dates only in Adelaide and Sydney.

Sorry,

Mark

SteveO: Re. Burt and Major7ths Chords

Post by Major7thChordsLover »

Hi Steve.
I never heard that term before, but I'm not surprise at all.
Major7ths are so lovely. Richard Carpenter also loves them to the max!
On Richard Carpenters classic version of McCartney's "Ticket to ride", he changed the whole melody in a major7th. I just adore the end of the song chorus.. " I think I'm gonna be sad" to fade....

And Well, Burt has them all over his songs too...

Hi Willy,
Yes, I too love the major 7th chord....when spelling it out close voiced from root form, it has a tingling effect, an effect that says "something's not quite right"(as opposed to a major chord), but as you probably know, that chord can be "voiced" in a variety of ways.....with inversions, or mixed over an octaves
legnth, with the 7th buried in the middle as in jazz, etc ....
Wonder what the origns of this chord are? Must be French, ala Ravel (Pavanne for a Dead Princess) or Erik Satie (Gymnopedies)
I feel that Burt is very unique in modern day in that he makes this chord so very much part of his writing style....
