For those of you who have never heard this Burt/Hal creation, here it is. While the lyric wouldn't fly in this day and age, I do think the music is absolutely wonderful -- and very catchy, too.

I am a chinese but I still find this music for a Japanese cartoon
wonderful.

It's catchy and "easy listening" (should be an early
BB song), melody in the same vein as Blue on Blue

So glad you enjoyed the above song, hereiam.

For those of you too young to remember this Burt/Hal creation, I'm please to supply this link for your listening pleasure. I love this song so much. I remember being so thrilled when I got the sheet music for it and I certainly remember the fun I had in learning it. There's a diminished chord in the song that is unbelievably placed that I can't believe Burt's genius in coming up with just that. The cover of the sheet music is great too. B.J. is in Times Square and it's totally empty. Hal, once again, wrote a lyric here that is pure "Hal David", IMHO. No one can write about quotidian things so lyrically as Hal can, IMHO.

If I recall, this was B.J.'s follow-up song to his monster hit, "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head". For my money, next to Dionne, no one had a greater voice to listen to singing Burt's songs. It's funny how certain voices lend themselves to certain composers than other voices. I think Dionne and B.J. Thomas's voice were made for Burt's music.

Thanks for sharing, Blueonblue. Yes, I have often heard of the
"diminished chord" that BB used in his songs (The other 2 composers who used something like this "unexpected chord" are from France,
Michel Legrand and Francis Lai ). This adds such charm to the melody.

As for "Everybody's Out of Town", at the time it was released, it was not a bad song , but paled when compared with another Bacharach song for BJ called "Long Ago Tomorrow". I like the latter more as my tastes in music are more inclined to slow ballads which I think BB is better in writing.

BB has said one of his influences is Claude Debussy. Here's an electronic version of one of his masterpieces "Arabsbeque" with stunning visual
