ATTN: Bacharach Completists (1952-1959)

Post by Bacharach Land »

Hi All,

At the age of 26, I consider myself to be a fairly young Burt Bacharach enthusiast. It is perhaps because of my youthful enthusiasm that I have begun the daunting project of collecting every song that the maestro ever wrote (save for his 80s output, for obvious reasons). So far, I have amassed a collection of around 700 recordings. Many of these are, of course, duplicate recordings of songs like Alfie, The Look of Love, etc. I am fairly proud of my collection, but I realize that there are many gaps that must be filled. Therefore, I thought I might turn to the people on this board in hopes that other enthusiasts could fill those gaps.

I have compiled a list (below) of all the recordings that I have and those that I don't. I took the list of songs from Serene Dominic's Song by Song. This particular list focuses on Bacharach's output between the years of 1952 and 1959 (Section One in Dominic's book). If a song has an asterisk (*) next to it, that means that I do NOT have the file. If there is no asterisk, I DO have the file. If I have more than one version of a song or need a particular version of a song, I have noted that in parentheses.

I am happy to trade with any person. I will also be happy to share files with people who have nothing to trade but are simply looking to round out their collections. A couple of years ago, there was a bit of controversy on this message board regarding the ethics of file sharing. I do not wish to enter that debate. Please understand that I am seeking extremely rare recordings that I could not find elsewhere. In most cases, I have acquired my songs via compilations like the recent Always Something There... by Ace Records. There are also several devoted bloggers (i.e. http://musicyouwont.blogspot.com) who have made considerable contributions to transferring rare Bacharach songs from vinyl to digital formats. As far as I am concerned, collecting all of Bacharach's songs is a matter of the heart -- a labor of love -- not a malicious attempt to rob the artists of any royalties they would have otherwise received. That is all I will say about that...

So, without further ado, here is the Section One (1952-1959) list:

1. "Once In A Blue Moon" - Nat King Cole
2. "Keep Me In Mind" - Patti Page
3. "The Desperate Hours" - Eileen Rodgers, w. Ray Conniff Orch.

Total songs needed: 21

Other songs that I have that were released during these years, but were not mentioned (or were overlooked by me) in Serene Dominic's book include: "Rosanne" and "Searching Wind" by Burt Bacharach and the Marion Evans Orchestra, and "Lost Little Girl" by The Light Brothers.

Thanks for your help. I truly appreciate it. I feel safest uploading files to sites like yousendit.com. For now, this is how I would prefer to share files. If you are looking for any of these songs, just reply to this message and I'll reply with a link to the file. If you have a song that I am looking for, simply reply to this message and we'll figure something out!

Thanks again,
Noah

Hey Noah,

Mel Torme's "Desperate Hours" is available on Rhino's MEL TORME AT THE MOVIES. Peggy Lee's "Uninvited Dream" can be found on Capitol's Peggy Lee box set THE SINGLES COLLECTION (available as individual song downloads from the usual suspects) as well as on Collector's Choice's recent Peggy singles comp, and "Faithfully" can be found on a Sony two-fer of Johnny Mathis' FAITHFULLY and JOHNNY'S MOOD albums.

Hope this helps. Also, check your PM box for more info.
