Bacharach on BBC radio this Sunday, Oct 12th

Post by pljms »

Bacharach is a guest on BBC Radio Two's Elaine Paige show, which airs from 1pm until 2.30pm GMT this Sunday, October 12th. It will no doubt be available on the BBC webpage's Listen Again facility after broadcast. The show will concentrate on BB's work for stage and screen.

Thank you for the information. If you, or anyone else, can post a link to the program, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

May help.

Also, "Schedule", on the left had side leads to a thing or two about the interview:

AFTERNOON Morning | Evening

13:00 Elaine Paige on Sunday
Elaine talks to composer Burt Bacharach. Focusing mainly on his work for stage and screen, Burt chats to Elaine about writing the song Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head for the film Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid; composing Arthur's Theme, for which Bacharach won an Oscar; his long association with the Austin Powers' films; and creating the 1968 Broadway musical Promises, Promises with writing-partner Hal David, which introduced the song I'll Never Fall In Love Again.

Plus working for screen legend Marlene Dietrich; his disappointment when the 1973 big screen musical Lost Horizon bombed at the Box Office; and writing The Look of Love for the 1967 James Bond film Casino Royale.

I went to that site just now (Monday morning, 3:09 AM EST) and it said that the page is unavailable. I hope it's available later on! I really want to hear this show.

I listened to the show live and I have to say that as an interviewer Elaine Paige makes a damn good singer! Chronologically the interview was all over the place and covered very well trodden ground, to Bacharach fans at least, but we did get to hear some new stuff about 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'. Since this interview concentrated on Bacharach's work for Stage and screen the music selections virtually chose themselves, although it was good to hear 'The World is a Circle' for a change. I had the feeling that the interview was conducted in 2007, not only because of the reference to Nikki's death "this year" but how he answered the question about current or recent activities with no mention of Elvis Costello, Diana Krall, Steve Tyrell or the new live album.

I’m sure that Burt and Elaine Paige never came within a million miles of one another for this interview. Burt was obviously in the States because he referred to a performance ‘here’ when it had clearly taken place in the US. The programme probably used a pre-recorded set of ‘answers’ and Elaine Paige simply dropped in the appropriate question at the appropriate time, trying (but not succeeding) to make the interview sound conversational. It was also careless to play the Philips recording of The Look of Love instead of the version Dusty recorded with Burt specifically for the soundtrack of Casino Royale. But there you go…

I just listened to the interview. Did anyone on this site mention what Burt said?.... Burt wrote a new song with Hal! Does anyone know anything about this?

Also, Burt mentioned that his 15-year old son, Oliver, won a Gold Medal at the "Nationals" for snowboarding. Burt said, "that was up there with my Academy Awards!" That's how excited and proud Burt was of his son.

I may be mistaken, but didn't someone on this site, a while ago, ask whether Burt's son was a top-notch snowboarder? Well, it IS his son.

WOW!!! Burt's son is AMAZING!!! Just like his father! Now I can see why Burt was as excited seeing his son with a Gold Medal at Nationals as his was when he won his Oscar! I honestly can see Oliver winning a Gold Medal at the Olympics in a few years.

Listen to what they're playing with this video!
