Sax solo on "The Look of Love"

Post by quadophile »

Hello BB fans! :)

I have been a fan of BB since late 60's when I was introduced to him by my father. The first album that I had heard was "Reach out" I was 9 years old and fell in love with his music.

I have been desperately searching for the name of the sax player on "The look of love" featured on the original soundtrack of Casino Royale but could not come up with any authentic source confirming who it was. I am pretty sure some you may have the answer, if so could you please share it with me?

Today while browsing I stumbled upon this site and decided to register and post. This is my first post and certainly not the last.

Thanks a lot.

Welcome aboard, Quadophile! For earlier discussions on this topic, please refer to page 21, entry 7 of this Forum and there's quite a bit of info regarding your inquiry. I fell in love with both versions of this song and that sax player really brought it on home for me, ESPECIALLY his glissando at the end!

Welcome, Quad! While I don't know who the sax player is, I suspect that part of the quality of his playing is due to something Burt may have done with the sax player. I have read Burt saying that he would often tell brass players, when blowing into the horn, to imagine themselves blowing out a syllable, like "yeah" or "wow" or "ooh" and that this gave their sound a unique tone and nuance that would be lost if the instrumentalist didn't blow in that way. I've often thought, when listening to the sax player on those Look of Love tracks, that Burt might well have told the sax player the same thing.
