There’s a beautiful rendition of “The Love Of A Boy’ by Dusty Springfield on a newly released UK DVD ‘The Liverpool Sound’ recorded in Melbourne, Australia, in 1964. Serene Dominic makes special mention in his book of Dusty’s live BBC radio performance of the song, which only exists in poor quality and has never been officially released. But recently unearthed is this Australian performance by Dusty, which is even better.
Gerry & The Pacemakers (they’re the ‘Liverpool’ bit) and Brian Poole & The Tremeloes also feature as well as Gene Pitney, whose live song set includes ‘Twenty Four Hours From Tulsa” and “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”.
